Book Review - Dear Wife

Dear Wife, by Kimberly Belle, had my attention from the first chapter. I typically enjoy the thriller genre and the book summary at the back of this book caught my interest so I couldn't wait to read it. I had no idea what I was about to get myself into when I read this story. The suspense and twists and turns were shocking towards the end of the story.

SUMMARY:

Dear Wife is the story about an abused woman who has plotted to leave her husband. There are several characters in this story but it begins with learning about Sabine who is married to her abusive husband, Jeffrey. Sabine is a very successful real estate agent who is the breadwinner in her marriage.

When Sabine comes up missing, Jeffrey is the prime suspect. His reaction to his wife not being home after a long work trip is first one of annoyance, but then it turns to frustration when he speaks with the police.

Detective Marcus Durand is on the case to find Sabine. His interviews with Jeffrey lead him to believe that Jeffrey was not a loving husband. Soon, Detective Durand learns that Sabine was having an affair with a prominent doctor. Dr. McAdams is out of his mind distraught at learning that his "soul mate" is missing.

While the detective is trying to break the case of the missing Sabine, "Beth" (not her real name) is on the run from her abusive husband. She has planned every detail of her escape to ensure she will be safe as she tries to build a new, safe, life. She believes she has thought of everything. After escaping with only cash, she purchases an old model car and burner phones as well as taking a zig-zag route to a new destination. A newfound friend helps her to acquire a fake ID and Social Security card so that she can work and earn some money to live on.

When she realizes things are about to come apart in her home town Pine Bluff, she decides she must lure her husband to her to finally end things. Therefore, 10 days after her escape, Beth knows exactly what to do to set up "snags" that he'll follow to find her in her new location. When he does - she is prepared and knows exactly what to do to save herself.

REVIEW:

This story captivated me from the very beginning, but I was NOT prepared for how the story ends. Kimberly Belle does a wonderful job building this story without giving up how it will all come together in the end. This was the first book I read by Kimberly Belle. I cannot wait to read some of her others. I am limiting how much I disclose about this book, but if you like suspenseful stories, this is a must-read!
